“Summertime, and the livin’ is easy
Fish are jumpin’ and the cotton is high
Oh, your daddy’s rich and your ma is good-lookin’
So hush little baby, Don’t you cry.”

– George Gershwin, Summertime

How will you remember the summer of 2017? I hope it’s been awesome. I hope the fish have jumped right into your boat, the crops have reached new heights, and that you find no reason to cry. I am a big believer in wishing people the best, most blessed life imaginable.

But things don’t always go that way.

You Can Survive This Summer…Even When the Living Isn’t So Easy

Summertime or not, the living isn’t always easy. Stuff happens and we wilt in the face of change, heartache, and stress. Thrive? Sometimes it’s all we can do to survive.

So here are 8 mid-summer blessings.  Whatever you may be up against this summer, here’s wishing you God’s blessings where you need them most.

8 Areas of Blessing to Salvage Your Summer

As we look at the 8 areas of blessing listed below, I invite you to 1) give thanks to God for your blessings, and 2) ask Him for assistance where you need it. Here we go…

Work & Service: Do you know what your work in this world is?  I pray that the work you do is appreciated and recognized by others and that you yourself can find satisfaction in the assignment God has given you. And may you get a raise.

Friends & Family: I pray that your loved ones are well. I hope they are doing well and making good decisions, so you don’t have to worry about them so much. May you find time to sit and tell stories, to enjoy food and drink, and to be fully present to those you love.

Personal Finances: Money is a wonderful servant but a horrible master. I pray, as Solomon prayed, that you won’t have too much or too little. May you follow the advice of John Wesley, who had this to say about money: “Earn all you can, give all you can, save all you can.” I pray, “Lord, give my readers a break, pour out your blessing on them and teach them how to steward their money.

Love & Romance: Whether you are in a relationship or yearning for one, may you get what you really need and want. May your most intimate relationships bring joy to your heart and give God glory.

Health & Self-Care: May your body and mind be healthy. May you cultivate self-care. May you take responsibility for the care and feeding of your heart, soul, mind, and body. Rest, recreate, rejuvenate, repeat.

Fun & Recreation: I hope you can carve out time to have fun and to do the things you love to do. Jesus said to become like little children. Little children play because they know they are safe and cared for. If you are safe and cared for in the care of your Heavenly Father, you can stop working, stop worrying, and make time to play.

Personal & Spiritual Growth: Either prosperity or pain can call you closer to God. Remember who you love and what matters most to you. May you reflect upon matters of the heart, love God and people this summer.

Physical Environment: Your neighborhood and home should be safe places, for you and for your neighbors. May God bless you with sweet roommates and a home that is truly a refuge. May the street where you live be a good one because you live there.

This year summer runs through September 22, so we’re only about half way through it. Give this season to God, give thanks for what’s right about it, and seek His blessing where you need it. Whether your life is hard or easy this summer, I hope it’s your best summer ever.

Tell Me:

  1. What’s right this summer?
  2. What’s wrong?
  3. In what area do you most need God’s blessing?
